Challenges faced by South African women
South African sisters are increasingly doing it for themselves, and the Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring rankings, released last month, put our female entrepreneurs 23rd of 42 countries, while South Africa's overall entrepreneurial population comes in 30th. However, according to Gideon Maas, principal GEM researcher at the UCT Graduate School of Business, women are still performing below the global average even while performing locally better than men. “Worldwide, females are outnumbered by male entrepreneurs,” says Maas. “The global average for female entrepreneurship is 7.7% of the population. South African women are currently at just 4.8%.”

Broadband price wars boost all SME's
Despite President Thabo Mbeki's promise made in the presidential address earlier this year, relaying governments rather vague commitment to reduce (somehow) the cost of fixed line telecoms costs (somewhat) in the unspecified future (somewhere), it seems that if it weren't for MTN's bold action earlier last week, data transfer costs would still be as high as they were pre-address.
