Home Office Trend to Benefit Businesses Wanting to Save on Property Expenses
With SME’s growing and new business opportunities emerging almost daily in South Africa, it is interesting to note how close we are on the heels of countries such as the US and Canada where setting up home offices is concerned.
While virtual offices (or home offices, as we know it) benefit companies looking to trim property expenses, they also serve as a resource for businesses interested in testing new markets without taking on additional costs and risk.
An example is CAPCO Health Group, Inc. a provider of healthcare services in the North American medical insurance community which has been a Toronto-based Regus client since 2000 and is using virtual offices to pursue new business opportunities.
Establishing a presence with virtual offices allows the business owner to avoid costly upfront capital expenditures and minimizes risk. If a market is not as successful as initially planned, the investment and risk exposure is minimal.
In some instances a local phone number, a recognisable business address that the virtual office provides is important when customers are spread out in a region or in a country. They don’t need to travel vast distances in order to meet with a representative face-to-face.
Second to salaries, business costs such as the bond on the property is often a company’s second largest fixed expense. Increasingly, property and expenses for premises will come down for businesses who adopt flexible working practices. This newly-saved capital can be re-directed back into the business.
