New Business Trends Working From Home
A Home Business does not rely on hanging up a sign
Finding customers for your Home Business might, perhaps, be the hardest thing you will face. For all start-up businesses this is the biggest hurdle. A Home Business, by definition, is a business that is run from home. By their very nature, most home businesses keep a low profile. Typically, you do not hang a sign outside to attract drive –by customers, because a sign is not very effective at drawing customers to a home business, and because most home businesses don’t cater for walk-in traffic.
So how do you find customers for your Home Business? The first thing you do is to develop a plan! Think who makes an ideal customer for your home business. If you sell to businesses, consider what department within the business is most likely to need your products or services and which individual (what job description) is the ‘’decision maker’’. Then think about how that person normally sources products or services like yours. Finally, find a way to put your information about your home business in those places where they are likely to look.
Remember there are many pathways to success! Sales will come when prospective customers hear about your products and services in many ways and from several sources. Everything you do and every contact you make lays the groundwork for future sales.
Work your local Newspapers! This is a great source of information about your potential customers. Find out who just bought a house, had a baby, got a new job or started a business. Identify those who will be good prospects for your home business and send them a personal letter, outlining why your product or service would suit them.
What else do you do to find customers? Watch for events that might bring your potential market together. Contact the organiser and offer to give away your product or service as a prize during their event. If possible, arrange to bring the prize at the start of the event and use the opportunity to network with potential customers.
Attend meetings and seminars that you might think your perspective clients will attend and basically get out in the community and sell your home business. Give yourself enough exposure and growth will come from unexpected sources.
